ADELAIDE HILLS COUNCIL
The Award Winning Adelaide Hills Council Welcome You!
We strive to be the best Council in Australia through our continual pursuit of excellence in proudly delivering services to 39,000 people living in our district.
The Adelaide Hills Council is committed to protecting, not only the productive land, but also the pleasant lifestyle of the people who live in our district, whilst maintaining a careful balance between development and conservation.
This is an exciting time for the Adelaide Hills Council. A new Library building for Stirling is currently being constructed. the Mount Lofty Recreation Centre is about to be commissioned, main street projects at Lobethal, Woodside and Birdwood are being progressed and the first group of our new town entrance signs are about to be installed.
From an economic development perspective, the Adelaide Hills Council district has an expanding economy with high growth potential in food, wine, tourism, retail and light industry. The unemployment rate of approximately 2.2% is about 2.9% below the State Average (SA).
It is now over 11 years since the Council was inaugurated and during this time the Council has successfully 'rolled out' a number of major new initiatives, in particular a fully integrated waste management service, a new Branch Library in Stirling ($5 million) and the construction of the $3 million Mt Lofty Community Sports Centre (in conjunction with the State Government).
Other major capital works proposed for 2008/09 are Building & Property ($665,000), Sealed Roads ($1.45 million), Traffic Control ($405,000) and Waste Closure Remediation ($1.5 million).
